The feed industry and livestock producers are recognising the importance of feeding their animals an optimum nutrient supply in the first few weeks of life in order to get productivity gains throughout that animal’s lifetime.

At EuroTier in Hannover last week, we heard from the CEO of ForFarmers, Yoram Knoop, about the strategic alliance the Dutch compound feed group has formed with Nutreco to develop innovative nutritional products, with a particular focus on young animal feed.

He said the partners will, initially, concentrate on the area of piglet feed.

Last month saw Nutreco launch its dairy calf nutrition program, LifeStart. The Hannover show saw the feed giant reveal the intricacies of that approach to dairy producers.

French firm, Lesaffre, also used the German event to roll out a neonatal program for the dairy calf segment.

And EuroTier saw another leading company, Cargill Animal Nutrition, reveal its next generation set of piglet-focused tools and nutritional products.
