Mark Overland, director of global certification at Cargill, said three of the agribusiness giant’s feed production plants are now certified against the standard, and more are in the process of meeting the compliance requirements.
He said FSSC 22000 Animal Food and Feed is well understood by regulators and livestock producers globally.
The Foundation said Cargill and Land O’Lakes acheiving compliance was "a great achievement" for both organizations as both had actively participated in the development of the PAS 222 and had been committed to ensuring an a feed scope was added to FSSC 22000.
A steering group consisting of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and companies including Cargill, Land O’Lakes, Nestlé and Nutreco, was involved in the development of FSSC 22000 Animal Food and Feedprogram, which was launched in April last year.
Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 222 was developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI) to specify requirements to help control animal feed safety hazards.
