Hubbard is a subsidiary of Ridley USA, which was purchased by Alltech in 2015.
The merger will allow Ridley and Hubbard gain access to Ranch-Way’s distribution area, said Steve Van Roekel, CEO of Ridley.
“We closed on it [the deal] last week,” he told FeedNavigator.
Ranch-Way Feeds has been operating in the Colorado area for more than 60 years and has a staff of about 50 people, said Alltech. The company produces more than 50,000 tons of feed a year.
The purchase includes Ranch-Way Feeds’ retail store The Feed Bin, which is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, said Alltech. The technical, sales and marketing teams will be absorbed into Hubbard operations.
Geographically, the Ranch-Way Feeds acquisitions also expands the Hubbard Feed's reach, said Van Roekel.
The Colorado-based company has a background in providing feed and products for multiple species, he said.
“Ranch-Way markets to a wide variety of [producers] not just meat, milk and egg producers,” said VanRoekel. “The predominate [regional] species is beef cattle, that’s the largest single species."
The acquisition also will allow for the company to expand the market for Ranch-Way specialty and organic feed products, he said. The company offers multiple organic products including, organic feeds for cattle, chickens, turkey and swine, it added.
“There are a number of products like organic feeds and we’ll be able to market those products through our other facilities,” said VanRoekel. “There are products that Hubbard or Ridley dealers will now be able to market.”
Financial details of the purchase were not released. Alltech also announced the acquisition of the aqua feed and nutrition company Coppens International on Monday.
