Spain: Cargill using KSE technology in plant upgrade

Cargill Animal Nutrition (CAN) says it is collaborating with process technology supplier, KSE, in the expansion of its animal nutrition production facility in Mequinenza, Spain.

The US agribusiness company, with activities in Spain since 1960, is investing €20m ($22m) in the extension.

The upgrade to the plant, which is scheduled to be operational in the third quarter of 2017, will included dosing and weighing systems, flexible silos for storage of raw materials and an internal transport solution from KSE.

Cargill said the extension is aimed at enhancing product quality, customer experience and improving logistics.

Spain remains a growing market and to meet the demand, producers are professionalizing and scaling up their operations, said Alberto Martínez, MD, CAN, Spain.

The company’s animal nutrition portfolio in that country includes piglet feed brand, SCA, which has dedicated production in Mequinenza, and Nutral, a multispecies brand, whose product portfolio includes premix, starter feeds, milk replacers, additives and others nutrition specialties.

Cargill's Iberian business also includes a Technology Application Center (TAC) focused on swine research, which is located in Prades.
