The group is an owner-managed, globally active company and one of the leading producers of wheat starches and wheat proteins in Europe; it has been producing at its headquarters in Ibbenbüren for over 160 years.
Since 2015, its pet food and animal feed activities have been managed by the business unit, C&D Petfood & Feed. It has recently restructured its product portfolio and introduced two divisions for pet food and farm animal feed: Trigea and Crespeo, respectively.
“C&D Petfood & Feed has now been split into the two new brands - Crespeo and Trigea - so as to more effectively target the product range and services available to the various industries and customers.
“The vision and objective of the work remain the same: providing pets and livestock with high-quality, sustainable ingredients obtained from the raw material of wheat, thereby contributing to the animals’ health, wellbeing and performance,” Heike Sander, head of marketing & communications, Crespel & Deiters Group, told us.
In terms of how Crespeo feed products stand out from those of competitors, the spokesperson said:
“All products are designed to meet the special nutritional needs of livestock feed and come from GMO-free EU cultivation. As a highly digestible source of protein and carbohydrates, wheat not only offers ideal nutritional value, but also provides functional benefits to optimize stability, texture and taste.”
Only EU wheat is used, at least 75% of which comes from German cultivation. This guarantees that the raw material is free of genetically modified ingredients, said the group. In addition, the high-quality EU wheat is rich in nutrients and is characterized by high purity, while the regional proximity keeps the amount of transport routes and emissions as low as possible, it added.
Animal feed portfolio
Using wheat-based raw materials, Crespeo said it develops products for farmers and feed producers with product applications targeting the cattle and swine sectors. It also supplies wheat-based nutrient substitutes for use in milk replacers, for rearing calves, piglets and lambs.
- Crespovit Starch comprises a broad portfolio of native and modified starches, and pregelatinized wheat starches. “The solubilized starches provide an easily digestible carbohydrate source for animals, and also serve as functional binders.”
- Crespovit Protein: The hydrolyzed wheat protein is ideal for use in feed for young animals, said the firm. “The highly digestible protein is homogeneously distributed, for example in milk replacers and prestarters, and raises the protein level with its protein content of at least 82%.”
- Crespovit Flour consists of extruded pregelatinized wheat flours which, due to their high solubility, are used as a stabilizer and easily digestible carbohydrate source in milk replacers and prestarters, said the group. “They also have good binding properties and thus serve as a binder for the compound feed industry.”
