Newly opened DSM lab will support mission ‘to radically improve industry sustainability’
The Analytical Center of Excellence (ACE) consists of 200m2 of new laboratory space. It adds to the existing R&D facilities on site at the BIOMIN Research Center.
Clients worldwide are set to benefit from the work conducted there, said a DSM spokesperson.
The team’s main focus is to advise clients on the nutritional and carotenoid content of their feed materials for all species, and to perform a similar advisory service for eggs from egg producer customers, he told FeedNavigator.
The scientists based at the new ACE lab will rely on the latest tools such as liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) equipment to conduct such analytical work.
Reduction of livestock emissions
“This is an expansion of a service that DSM customers have appreciated for many years. The acquisition of BIOMIN in 2020 provided a great opportunity to take it to the next level.
“Proper nutrition is the basis for good animal health, which cascades into better performance, less need for antimicrobials and lower emissions. This is part of our mission to radically improve the sustainability of the industry,” added the representative.
DSM recently announced a series of quantifiable commitments aimed at addressing societal and environmental challenges linked to global production and consumption of food. “This includes a commitment to enable a double-digit on-farm reduction of livestock emissions by 2030.”
The Dutch company announced the acquisition of the Erber Group’s animal nutrition and health businesses, Biomin and Romer Labs, in June last year, with Geraldine Matchett and Dimitri de Vreeze, Co-CEOs of DSM, saying then how both entities would help strengthen and accelerate the growth of DSM's specialty animal nutrition and health offering, including its big data and diagnostic capabilities.
