BioMar's salmon division has appointed a new marketing director in a bid to get ready for future product launches.
Marcel Huijsmans joins BioMar from Hendrix Genetics, where he has been director of communications and marketing for the last 12 years.

With 20 years of experience within the food industry and agriculture/aquaculture businesses, across various categories, ranging from potato products to fresh meat and, today, animal genetics, he brings a wide range of competences within product and concept development, market dynamics and research, which I am sure will benefit the BioMar organization as well as our customers,” said Paddy Campbell, VP, salmon division, BioMar.
UK based food recycling specialist, A C Shropshires, has appointed Paul Clements as its new operations director with immediate effect.
He joins Shropshires from Enva (formerly Wastecycle) where he spent 11 years as its commercial director.
In his new role, Clements will have commercial and operational responsibility for Shropshires’ animal feed and anaerobic digestion businesses which combined, manage over 100,000 tons of food waste a year, reported the company.
Commenting on his appointment, Clements said: “This is a great opportunity to drive the growth of this well established and highly respected business. Shropshires’ ability to recycle food waste into either animal feed or renewable energy is quite unique and fully in line with the food waste hierarchy. As a result, we are able to maximize the value of the material we manage benefitting both waste producers and users of our products.”
Andrew Thomas brings over 30 years of international management experience and proven success in the agri-food and seed industries to the newly created CEO position at Alltech’s crop division, said the US firm.
Thomas has been appointed to lead the global team and further cultivate the strategic growth of Alltech Crop Science.
“We believe there is tremendous potential within global crop production to cultivate a more promising future,” said Dr Mark Lyons, president and CEO of Alltech. “We felt it was essential to appoint a CEO to lead the charge, and we specifically sought someone with international experience, and proven commercial success."
Most recently, Thomas served as CEO of WISErg Corporation, a circular economy business based in Seattle, Washington, USA, that diverts waste streams to sustainable agricultural inputs.
Previously, Thomas served in executive management roles for the plant breeding and seed company, Nuseed, as the business successfully expanded both its geographic footprint and its pipeline of technologies and products across multiple crops.
IFF’s Health & Biosciences division has made Pauel Fokin vice president of the Danisco animal nutrition business.
Fokin brings over 25 years of international business management experience to his new role with a solid background in the specialty chemicals, food ingredients and pharmaceutical industries, said the company.
Most recently, he was the global commercial vice president for the pharma solutions division at IFF.
Simon Herriott, president of Health & Biosciences division, IFF, said that Fokin is "a great addition to our leadership team. He has a proven track record for delivering growth, managing customer relationships, building high performance teams and driving high value strategic projects to completion.”
Fokin holds a Master of Business Administration from the London Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Penn State University. He will be based at the IFF’s Health & Biosciences divisional headquarters in Wilmington, USA.
The annual General Assembly of European Fishmeal (EFFOP), held virtually in September, saw the sitting president, Johannes Palsson, CEO of the Danish fishmeal producer FF Skagen, step down after seven years as president.
Frank Trearty, general manager of the Irish fishmeal producer, Pelagia Killybegs, was chosen as his successor.
Prior to this role, Trearty was vice president of EFFOP, and the board, in a unanimous decision, said those duties would now be taken over by Garðar Svavarsson, who joined the board as the representative of the Icelandic fishmeal producers.
Ruud Tijssens, group director public and cooperative affairs, Agrifirm Group, was recently elected as IFIF’s new chair for 2022-2023.
The voting took place during the 34th General Assembly of the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF), late last month.
Outgoing IFIF chair, Dr Daniel Bercovici, commented: “We are at a critical phase of implementing IFIF’s strategy in the face of important global challenges and opportunities in the feed and food chain and I believe Ruud is well placed to successfully lead the Federation."
Tijssens thanked Bercovici for “his outstanding leadership of IFIF over the last four years under which IFIF experienced strong growth in strategic projects and deeper relationships with international stakeholders while attracting a range of new members from across the globe.”
The new chair outlined the IFIF’s three strategic pillars, including the promotion of a balanced regulatory framework and support for innovation, sustainability with science-based standards to contribute to the measurement and management of the feed and livestock sector footprint, as well as education around best practice.
“We will continue to drive key initiatives, including IFIF’s Nutritional innovation work, capacity development for feed safety programs, as well as the IFIF FAO International Feed Regulators Meeting (IFRM) series.”
