Nutreco has finalized the acquisition of Danish farm minerals, concentrates and piglet feed company, Nutrimin, following on from the approval of the deal from the authorities in Denmark.

The company now forms part of Nutreco’s animal nutrition division, Trouw Nutrition.

Trouw Nutrition had been looking for opportunities to expand its business into the growing animal nutrition industry in Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia. The deal, it said, gives it greater access to farmers in that market, along with access to Danish-owned farms in Eastern Europe and Russia.

Nutreco COO and CEO of Trouw Nutrition, Saskia Korink, said: “There is a strong fit between our focus on sustainable growth and Nutrimin’s reliable and customer-centric approach.”

Torben Nielsen, former owner and current sales director of Nutrimin, said that firm "has always worked to provide a sustainable viable alternative to the Danish animal nutrition industry and through this transaction, our customers will continue to have a reliable partner with a strong focus on innovation. I will remain heavily involved... By being part of Trouw Nutrition, we will continue to contribute to the future of Danish agriculture.”

The next step, said the Dutch firm, is to begin integration activities that add value to Nutrimin’s customers by giving them access to Trouw Nutrition specialty products while also further developing the synergies between the two entities.

Brazilian market footprint

Earlier this year, Nutreco acquired Bigsal from HIG Capital.

Nutreco said the investment was key to expanding and strengthening Trouw Nutrition’s business in northern Brazil. Bigsal's plant is located in the state of Rondônia.

Founded in 2003, the company is a market leader in the animal nutrition market in northern Brazil with a complete portfolio that ranges from farm minerals to complete feeds focused on beef and dairy cattle.
