Chemicals and ingredients distribution company, Brenntag, is expanding its site in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Poland, investing in production efficiency, capacity and capabilities aimed at widening its customer base in the animal nutrition and pet food industries.

The planned measures cover a new production line and increasing storage capabilities; those improvements will come online at the end of 2022.

Wouter Vullings, director animal nutrition EMEA, said that, over the past 22 years, the company has been continuously investing in the Polish factory, with it today serving customers from almost 40 countries globally.

“This investment plan is supporting our long-term strategic goal to increase our presence as a leading solution provider in the animal nutrition market in the EMEA region."

Broader portfolio

The expansion of the manufacturing facility will allow Brenntag to broaden out its product portfolio and improve production and process automation. The company has noted significant demand for dry premixtures, reported Tomasz Kowalik, application development manager, animal nutrition EMEA.

The Kędzierzyn-Koźle site is set up to produce both liquid and solid products under FAMI-QS and GMP+ quality monitoring systems.

It is one of eight premix production facilities Brenntag has in Europe, targeting livestock feed and pet food production with a portfolio including premixtures to preserve ingredients against yeast or mold, to prevent bacterial contamination, stimulate animals' gut health, prevent oxidation of fats and oils, or create solid versions of liquid ingredients.

“All this leads to a reduction of feed waste. The products thus contribute to the company's sustainability goals, to increase resource efficiency in the whole value chain.”

Headquartered in Essen, Germany, Brenntag has more than 17,000 employees worldwide and operates a network of more than 670 sites in 77 countries. In 2020, it generated sales of around €11.8bn.
