Feed and nutrition strategies to optimize pig gut health
This 60-minute webinar, Gut Microflora, Diet, and Pathogens: Key Factors in Swine Digestion, dives into the pivotal role of the gut microbiota in swine digestion, nutrient absorption, pathogen defense, and overall health.
By optimizing gut health through targeted feed and supplements, producers can unlock benefits such as improved pig performance, enhanced animal welfare, reduced environmental impacts, and lower costs.
Why attend?
- Insights from leading experts in swine nutrition and microbiota research.
- Innovative strategies to improve gut health and boost swine performance.
- Interactive discussions during a live Q&A session with the panelists.
Meet the speakers:
Three distinguished experts will share their knowledge on feed and nutrition strategies for swine gut health:
Dr Katie McDermott, lecturer in sustainable livestock production and deputy director of the National Pig Centre, University of Leeds, in the UK.
She will present on two groundbreaking projects RoboHog and PolyPig, which are focused on sustainable pig production and microbiota research.
- RoboHog is an in-vitro model replicating a pig’s gut environment to evaluate feed additives and conduct pathogen studies, amohg other benefits.
- PolyPig is a project aimed at researching sustainable feeds to improve piglet survival and post-weaning growth.
Anouschka Middelkoop, swine nutrition researcher at Schothorst Feed Research (SFR) in the Netherlands.
She will discuss early gut microbiota development in piglets and strategies to combat diarrhea including insights into the critical early-life programming of the gastrointestinal tract for long-term health and performance.
Dr Dan Columbus, research scientist in nutrition at the Prairie Swine Centre in Canada.
He will explore the functional roles of amino acids in pig nutrition, focusing on their effects on gut health and immune status. He will also challenge conventional views on amino acid supplementation with research-backed benefits for gut development and immunity.
Event format
